Taxpayers Association of Tanzania (TATA) is an independent, non-partisan Organization founded in 1997 and fully registered by the Government of United Republic of Tanzania  on 07th December 1999, with the purpose to bring  together taxpayers and amplifies their voice for low, just, affordable, transparent tax and accountability.

The Association is among of more than 167 members of World Taxpayers Association (WTA) which connecting taxpayer protection groups in order to share best practices and to create opportunities for collaboration, so as to spread economic freedom to millions of citizens worldwide.

TATA rooted on the need for government accountability in collection and best use of taxes. The impetus for this initiative was growing frustration among taxpayers regarding the increasing tax rates, wasteful expenditure and use of taxpayer’s money in socio-economic development.

Due to the fact that Social and economic development of a Nation depends on taxes, on that premise taxpayers should demand that their taxes be used to bring about effective, quality public service delivery based on the value of money and fulfillment of their basic human rights, In realization of that, TATA emerged to unify their voice in advocating for their rights, resolving tax disputes, against  wasteful expenditure of the taxpayers money by ensuring spending decision are transparent, also make sure that tax laws and policies are fair and understandable that the tax burden is optimal, we also equip taxpayers with tools that will enhance their awareness on tax issues from the grassroots level through both ground and online platform and bring the Taxpayers vision to the heart of the government.

The association succeeded to participate various tax awareness programs including through Television such as “Malumbano ya hoja” Held by ITV and many others, also through ground visitation, also we wrote various proposal and recommendation for tax laws and  policies reform to government and tax authorities which brought changes and affordability to taxpayers before the association stop its operation in 2015. However still there is a need for more effort to bring changes in tax system in Tanzania, which can only be achieved if we unite through TATA.

Through our lobbying skills, media savvy, policy expertise, we will ensure the solutions to taxpayers’ problems are practical and unrivaled. We will push back on unjust revenue grabs across the country, roll back unnecessary regulations, and encourage the investment, innovation, and free trade that will guarantee economic growth and promote a fair taxation system.

Thousands of lobbyists work for special and personal interests, but TATA is the “Taxpayers’ Lobbyist.” We fight to ensure that all taxpayers are able to pursue their dreams without the heavy burden of tax holding back.

Let’s unite to bring changes.
